We've quoted them on this site so often, that it was natural that the writers of Peep Show should want to repay the compliment by name-checking Brockley on Friday night.
Either they thought that the place that had played host to the White Stripes, Kings of Leon and the Cosmic Sausages was a fittingly epic setting for the historic rebirth of Man Feelings or they regarded it as the kind of musical backwater that would be perfect for the Death of Danny Dyer's Chocolate Homunculus. It's impossible to know what's going on in their heads and if we ask them, they don't necessarily have to tell the truth.

I thought I'd misheard "Brockley" when I watched it on Friday night, so thanks for confirming I don't need my ears testing! Peep Show is brilliant, one of the funniest comedies ever. Love it, love it, love it!!!!
I think it was meant in the "Hello Tunbridge Wells!" style we're all used to.
Wasn't that The Amersham Arms where it was filmed?
They've mentioned Catford on there before too - I guess one of the producers must be from around here?!
Thought it looked more like New Cross. Not many pubs like that in Brockley.
It's set - and was originally filmed - in Croydon.
The hubby of one of my colleagues is one of the writers for Peep Show. They live in Greenwich and were considering a move to Brockley at one point, so maybe he wrote it!

"Brockley is cool, I know several people who have moved here" So there we have it, the chattering classes have declared Brockley acceptable. We have about ten years of Brockley being great before it's described as "up itself and full of tossers"
I think that particular watershed was passed around the time of complaints regarding Speedicars' sign.
Mark Frith (ex editor of Heat, current editor of Time Out) lives locally, as does Danny Baker...
Danny Baker lives in Blackheath, whilst not a million miles away it's hardly Brockley, even by Nick's standards.

Saw this on 4OD last night - great episode. I thought the pub looked very much like the the back room of the Amersham Arms in New Cross.
Staying on the Peep Show/SE London theme, the actress who plays Dobby(Issy Suttie) did a few stand-up shows at The Albany in Deptford earlier this year - I managed to catch one of them and thought she was actually pretty good.
I'm sure you're right - it definitely looked like the Amersham. Which means that New Cross is officially Brockley now ;)
